Replica of a Swedish Viking Brooch Found in the Lund Museum, Sweden, 11th Century.
Viking brooches were used as clothes fasteners and worn as an ostentatious display of wealth. These Viking brooches take a variety of different forms incorporating dragons, wolves & mythical beasts into intricate knotwork designs. Viking tortoise brooches (also called turtle brooches) are worn in pairs on the front of a Viking woman’s dress / hangerock and can be used to have a string of beads, charms & keys suspended between them.
